Hawks soar with Virginian title

The Virginian Tournament May 24-26 in suburban Washington, D.C., marked the first time that the Under-12 Hawks Green girls soccer team traveled by airplane for competition.

By the end of the action, the Hawks were really flying high as they captured the championship of the U-12 8-on-8 Bronze Division by defeating the CYA Blast 2-1.

Team members were MoMo Chapa, Haley Chute, Caroline Green, Meredith Green, Emma Guinn, Hannah Guinn, Jennifer Gust, Claire Hopkins, Rachel Iaffaldano, Sarah Kreger, Lisa Schmidt, Tori Tomei and Meagan Yeh.

The Hawks were coached by Mostafa Edders and Bill Gust.

The Hawks defeated the Beach FC Piranhas Elite 4-1 in the semifinals May 25 after going 2-0-1 in pool play by beating the PWSI Courage-White (1-0 May 25), WYSC FC Fury (5-1 May 24) and tying the SYC Shockwave 1-1 May 24.
